Hello, Kitty!

We had Evangeline's first birthday party over labor day weekend. Her paternal grandparents traveled up from central Florida and my parents were there as well. Her two godmothers also attended and she had a FABULOUS time!

I had a darn good day myself!

Welcome!

This is Evangeline's story, but it is also mine. At 17 weeks pregnant with my first child, I found out that my baby was a little girl! I also found out that she was going to be born with spina bifida. I spent the remainder of my pregnancy uncertain of so many things...things that were scary and painful...and that later turned out not to matter as much as I thought they would. At the time, I wondered if my child would walk, where she would and wouldn't have feeling, if she would develop hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), what impact the arnold chiari would have on her development and so many more questions. I began to write this blog as a way for myself to get through all the crazy pregancy stuff, but also to answer questions for women who find themselves in the same situation and want to know what to expect. If I made it through to my little miracle, so can you! No matter how scary the day of diagnosis was- what comes after you meet your baby far surpassess your wildest imaginations. Its better than falling in love, while riding off into the sunset on a snow-white unicorn to collect your 20 million in lottery winnings, before dropping by Buckingham Palace for tea where a pixie will appear and crown you queen of your own small island complete with four start resort. Or so I've been told....my unicorn is on back order, and has been for a while. But, Evangeline and I are pretty darn happy even without a unicorn. I don't have all the answers, but I can probably point you in the general direction of somebody who can help you find out what you are looking for.
